The prayer meeting was a smart move even if it was the first one he had attended. Give free food to a bunch of preachers, grab a Bible and they would cheer for nuclear war.

You are right about that prayer meeting speech. Even in the heat of this crisis, he acts and reacts in his trial balloon fashion. I didn't see a whole lot of sincerity in his apology or his repentance. Sure he's sorry; but it's because he got caught and was made to look bad, not because of the pain he caused to so many people because of his conduct. He needs to look each and every one of us in the eye, without biting his lower lip in that goofy manner he does when he wants us to think he's saying something really profound, and forcefully say it was wrong to do what he did, it was wrong to lie to us about it, it was wrong to hide behind legal technicalities, and he is sorry for putting the country, his family, his friends, Monica, her family, Buddy, Socks, Betty Curry, Kathleen Willey, et al. through this ordeal. Then he should take a six month unpaid leave of absence on some uncharted island to let the government get back to business. This self-imposed exile will give him time to think about what he did and to get his act together for the remainder of his term.
