I fully concur with your observations and study. SAP is nowhere near the OLAP market and it has no expertise in building such products. For SAP, it will take years to build a reasonable line of products. After many years of attempt, Microsoft is coming out with a OLAP product called Plato. We will have to wait and see what it is going to offer and in what way it is going to match the powerful Essbase server of Hyperion. The solutions provided by Hyperion is far superior to whatever alternatives that are available in the market today. The other significant player in the market is Cognos, a Canadian company.
