I do not think that Nettles has sour grapes here.
I said it before - this scenario stinks. And that includes the timing of the "burning circuit board". I would say that Nettles is letting Lucent know that he has at least one smoking gun.

I think that if Nettles hires the right detectives and gives them the resources they need that he will get solid evidence. I have never run across a CEO making those kinds of accusations for a deal before.

No - deliberately falsifying test results and acting on them for the purpose of sabotaging a competitor is quite illegal and could land AT&T and Lucent in serious trouble with the executive team bearing serious liability.
