Hey look, I'm sorry okay? Somehow I had a feeling I'd take a beating for that confession. Once a guilt trip, always a guilt trip, I always say. As to Carolyn, we never saw each other again, sad to say. Although we did exchange some rather heated telephone calls. I was sixteen and carless and she lived about eighty miles away as the crow flies, a full day's excursion as the bus drives. And Sue? Well, she accepted my apology (I think she was shocked that I called her, even moreso that I groveled). About two months later I got up the courage and asked her out again, she agreed (with the implicit understanding that it was a "one on one" date with no possible chance for a repeat). But I think the previous shadow kept anything more promising from happening, and we just sort of drifted off in different directions after that. And from what I've heard, I wouldn't wish being a surgeon's wife on any woman.
