That is not what the Constitution says. It requires a High, or very serious Crime, or a Misdemeanor, or serious misuse of his powers of office. The Constitution is here specifically talking about the President.

As I have said repeatedly, perjury could often be impeachable. But not this most minor and forgivable of all imaginable perjuries. It would never, ever have been even prosecuted if committed by an ordinary American. Much less have receive a sentence commensurate with a High Crime.

The Constitution thought that these very sorts of quasi fabricated attacks upon the President should be avoided, and accordingly required a high hurdle for impeachment, not just commission of some small crime.

The Paula Jones case was sized upon, perhaps fabricated, certain directed and funded, by zealous enemies of the President. Who were little interested in proving the truth of the Jones case (which was a sure looser), but rather interested in its possible, and as it turned out actual, license to engage in a far ranging inquisition into the President's otherwise unproveable private and consensual sex life. The answers to which were then illegally leaked.

This turns my stomach at least as much as the President's behavior.

And should not be rewarded.

Nancy, And you are going to sit there, and tell me that Bush,Reagon and all the other presidents have not lied? What color are your glasses mauve? Have you heard of Iran-Contra? Have you heard of El-Salvador? Have you heard of Cambodia? and Iran? and so it goes. Every damn president has not told the truth for one reason or another. I can document every single one of them going all the way back to the cherry tree. Cop a clue, the job needs a person who overlooks genocides where we are with the perpetrators. Did we hear about East Timor, and Indonesia? How about lots of info about Cambodia? Or how about Turkey and the Armenians?
America is not a land of honesty, but a land of manufacturing consent, read Noam Chomsky.
