Could be.

I actually have a complex view towards Newt. I thoroughly distrust him, as do most Americans. I think he cannot be counted on to have balance. I would absolutely hate, hate, hate, to have him be President.

On the other hand, I think he is a fount of creativity. I think he has come up with a lot of marvelously effective and useful conservative ideas. And also some real horrors. Keep him in Congress.

Doug

Newt suffers from the same mistake Clinton made in 1994. They both mistook an election with a small majority as a clear mandate to propose whatever their ideological core vote wanted. In the case of Newt, the Christian Coalition's platform. In the case of Clinton, Gays in the Military and Health Care Reform. They both overreached and no one trusts them. It's like hiring a new employee, and having him go all over the office changing things without asking first.

To be fair, Newt was being pressured by the Freshman Republican class of 1994. Clinton was being pressured by the senior liberal Democrats in his party: Rostenkowski, Mitchell, Kennedy, etc.
