StockJock-e, I definitely appreciated your chart!!!

In addition to my longs I've thought about day trading DELL. I've often wondered how to best evaluate the highs and lows to know when to get in and out.

Nice work!

Laura

StockJock-e If you've been making money using that system I congratulate you!

I looked at your chart and for the life of me I am mystified. I take it that when the green and yellow lines cross that means either buy or sell, correct? But I saw lots of those crossed lines with no indication of any action to be taken. Why not? How did you decide those were the authentic signals, and were those decisions taken real time?

My suspicion is that there is some inadvertent data mining going on. That is, the buy/sell decision is not taken immediately, but rather you wait for some additional "confirmation". If that's true, then the buy/sell points are temporally shifted (and not indicated).

Second, there is no indication of what the actual price would be to buy and sell. Remember, you buy at the asked and sell at the bid.

I saw a commercial rendition of this kind of thing with Dell a few months back. The guys were really proud of how well they did (26 round trip trades in a year). But you know, when I made the assumption that I bought at the very beginning of the test period and held right up to the end I outperformed the program by a very wide margin.

Jim Leon has publicly challenged any TAer to beat him with a buy and hold strategy. I suggest you contact him (jimleon) and set up some kind of test. I'd be interested in the outcome.
