Who cares? The Fed can only change the overnight funds rate and the discount rate. Long term rates have already moved lower without any help from the fed as fears of inflation have lessened and demand for longer term funds has weakened.

Even so it is unusual to have an inverted yield curve. Can either mean long term rates will go back up, which is not likely, or that the fed fund rate will be cut. While the move by the Fed to cut the funds rate may or may not be done in concert with other countries a cut in our rate is long overdue. I would bet there will be a 1/4 point cut this time and another 1/4 cut before Feb. 99. This will help financial institutions more than posters to this board.
