Dr. Saaed,

Re: "Dr. Yousef, I value your technology expertise; would you comment on how
AMD can get out of the mess it is in?"

It is quite a "mess" that AMD is in ... but ... AMD can get out of it. AMD
needs to bring out faster processors ASAP. This is necessary to achieve
higher ASP's. I just saw that Intel will be cutting CPU prices over 30%
very soon. AMD will continue to lose money if they only compete at the
low performance end of the PC market. To achieve higher speeds, AMD
needs to develop a FET (transistor) in their .25um process that competes
with Intel's. This mean a .25um FET that produces 600ua/um (NFET) and
300ua/um (PFET) drive currents at 1.8V. Please see my earlier post to
Maxwell on this exact subject:

Maxwell,

RELAX Maxwell ... I can just picture you with your eyes "bulging" and
arteries "throbbing" ... You might burst a blood vessel. Here is what
I said about 350mhz -->

"Bob,

Re: "AMD claims they will have 350MHz in Q3 and 400MHz in Q4. Do you think
they will do this on the current process?"

It could be possible to get 350mhz parts out of the existing process ... but the
control could be an issue. I would recommend that AMD develop a Rev2
device/FET that would use the existing interconnect from the .25um process.
This would be the sure way to get to 350mhz, 400mhz or 450mhz. This could be
developed in Santa Clara, but I would prefer to see this developed at the
manufacturing site (Austin). This is the only way for AMD to get "back in
the game".

Maybe AMD will take my advice ... What do you think, Maxwell ?? If I didn't
know you better, I would think that AMD was at a 52week low ... or something. <ggg>

Hope this helps."

Make It So,
Yousef
