Posted this on WWW thread and should have put here too. I own both and like you picked up some more COLM today, but unlike you I had to do it to average down to 15. Let those winter winds blow La Nina.

Finally ... some action on this thread. I've been licking my wounds with COLM's decline. This recent pop is a welcome change. I'm still a bit skeptical on whether this is a temporary pop or a final bottoming of this stock. I still feel that this is a good company with a great balance sheet.

Regarding their Asian presence, I don't think this is much of a factor since most of their business is done in the US, Canada, and Europe. I have attached a former posting regarding this. I would like to generate some discussions about this.

Regards,
Dennis

This quarters earnings will set the tone for the year. Lets look at the numbers so far:

3/98 6/98 9/98 12/98
0.11 0.02 0.84* 0.27* = 1.24 for FY98
* analyst projections ... source Yahoo Finance

now compare this to 1.13 expected.

Even if COLM meets the upcoming earnings expectations, they are well positioned in exceeding expectations for FY98. The 9/98 numbers is the challenge put forth. However, given that they are an establish company and the US economy is strong, there is a good chance they will either meet or beat this number. I know there are critics that will say
Asia is looming out there but according to their IR guy, Asia is just a small percentage of their total business. US accounts for 75-80%, Canada 6-8%, International 10-13% (Asia is 2-3% of this).

Nevertheless, I would like to see more advertising for their other products like footwear and sportswear ... just to get the word out. It would be interesting to see how much they put into their marketing.
