While I'm not much of an admirer of Diamond's tech support, in all fairness, you should have checked their web site first. In the FAQ's on the Viper 330, they clearly state that two Vipers won't work yet in Win 98. They also have a chart at diamondmm.com, where they also state, by way of two asterisks next to the Viper, that they don't yet support MM in Win 98.

I'm glad you got it working now, in any event. It's just that these companies leave a lot to be desired nowadays, and usually let us down bigtime, so it pays to check everything in advance. In this case, though, I think you had fair warning. That doesn't mitigate their lousy support though, since it does suck.

Microsoft also publishes a list on their site, which is updated continually to show the compatible monitors for MM in Win 98. I don't have the link handy, but here's a couple of other ones that may be helpful:
