M George,

I've been writing SQL queries since 1983.

Send me your schema and the question you are trying to answer and I'll send you back the query.

I'm hardly ignorant on the subject. I sold Express for Oracle for two years.

Muthian -- what language do you suppose these OLAP tools are using to interrogate SQL databases? SQL or pixie dust?

The numbers you cite are accurate. This is a class of products that is somewhat vague though. I used to call them data dippers. It has now come to encompass data storage forms on the back side such as Arbor and Redbrick, which somewhat distort the picture. HYSL is an example of this.

If you include ALL the tools that can assist a user in analyzing data in the OLAP category the numbers can get very large. You could include Microsoft Excel by way of example. So what?

Nice action on HYSL again today.
