TLC, CLCX, and now APOL: a drama in education APOL.. Although this one could rebound tomorrow or the next day, be careful of it for any longer term hold. I followed both CLCX and TLC very closely since their downfall. CLCX was massacred from a high of 39 to trade today 8 11/16.. TLC fared a better and clawed its way from a low of 13 (after it was scalped from its high of 32.81). If more disclosures are revealed you could see APOL at the same levels. I would wait for APOL to rebound and meanwhile like REXI, CBTSY and the rest of these sorry group, they could provide for very profitable daytrades as they have very large intraday ranges, as everyone waits to 'catch the dead cat bounce. Apollo Group sees good growth in Q4 Reuters Story - September 17, 1998 14:50 NEW YORK, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Apollo Group said Thursday that it expects enrollment at its University of Phoenix subsidiary to continue growing and anticipates "very good" earnings in the fourth quarter. "We're going to have a very good quarter," said John Sperling, Apollo's chairman and chief executive officer, in a conference call with analysts. Shares of Apollo fell as much as 12 points Thursday. A report in the Wall Street Journal quoted analysts saying that the company may be vulnerable to a recession and that Apollo was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education. Apollo officials on the conference call acknowledged an audit by the Department of Education, but said they did not anticipate any problems. Sperling said the company denied any wrongdoing. "We reject it out of hand," he said. Apollo executives also said they believe the company can weather a recession. Apollo provides adult education courses throughout the United States through its University of Phoenix and two other units.
