More importantly, Ballmer came up not because I think he would be a good CEO for Apple, but because I think Apple should model it's "CEO as a salesman" somewhat in the steps of the Gates-Ballmer arrangement in Microsoft.

Yes, it does. And I completely agree with your idea of "CEO as a salesman." In fact, the argument could be made that Microsoft needs this type of person now that Bill Gates is leaving the role somewhat and dedicating himself to the technology side of the business.

I apologize for my original vitriolic response, but I was so incensed at the idea of Steve Ballmer as Apple's CEO that I was....er, perhaps less tactful than I should have been.
