If the worst possibilities of filegate were true, and truly attributable to Clinton, they could well be impeachable offenses. I have long thought this. There also seems to be very little there, or we would have heard more about it long ago.

If SOMEBODY did something wrong in filegate that does not necessarily mean Clinton had anything to do with it, however. The abortive nature of anything that may have happened actually suggests the opposite.

Most people, other than Nixon's most ardent attackers, were quite slow to be willing to believe that Nixon himself was part of the vast cover up, and vast and frequent use of a number of federal agencies to get his enemies. Despite the fact that the very size and persistence of those efforts strongly suggested guidance from the top.
