Warning: Microsoft's new "Urban Assault" seems to be a dud.

Here's a review - which I mostly agree with:

The first huge problem with Urban Assault is the extreme lack of color. In
fact, this game is almost as monotone as Quake. I know that it is supposed
to be after a global holocaust and that the weather is far from the southern
Florida norm, but I'd like to have seen a little more variety.

What makes it even worse is the low-resolution textures, even when running
in hardware accelerated mode. Everything looks pixilated from practically
any distance. This is topped off by incredibly low polygon count models that
look like something out of an old eighties arcade game. For example, I'd
estimate that there are about four or five polygons in the average tank. If 3D
is supposed to add anything to a strategy game, it should add levels of
realism. Urban Assault has successfully stayed as far away from this as
possible.

The interface for Urban Assault is an exercise in
futility. Using both the mouse and joystick, you must
maneuver both yourself and countless other unites,
all the while keeping a close watch on the overhead
map and trying not to get ambushed. Now, in a
game like Battlezone, this is easy. In Urban Assault,
it's a nightmare.
