Just to clarify. I understand the need to cover their short sales in order to make a market in an uptrend since it is not feasible for them to hold inventory. What I object to is their precipitation of a down trend.

Instead of waiting for "naturally occurring" selling after an uptrend or after a correction such as we've seen a couple of days ago (selling on news), MMs precipitate a downtrend by "walking the dog" down (a 1/32 or a 1/16th at a time) on 100 share "trades" until they shake loose a number of shares from a weak or inexperienced hand. That's how they cover. That's what I object to. 100 share trades are totally implausible with a $2 stock, and we saw this kind of thing when this stock was less than $2.
