RE: Can't belive AG said what he said yesterday. I think he has just set the stage for a major market crash unless he lowers interest rate.

What do you think he said?

Listen to the replay one more time.

When asked a specific question, he gave a more specific answer, the first 2 words of which were, "RIGHT NOW". Well of course he wasn't working with other countries on a coordinated interest rate cut "RIGHT NOW", he was busy answering questions from the House Banking Committee.

Go to the dictionary and look up the definition of "NAIVE". In my dictionary it says,

Anybody who thinks the Fed will accurately preannounce its monetary actions on a live international telecast!

FWIW,
Ian.

How big can DVD be for LSI? ....

biz.yahoo.com

It said $40 ASP in that article.

Assuming 100M x86 for '99 (~11% growth over '98) and 75% equipped with DVD drives, LSI gets 20% or market, ASP plummets down to $20 overall for '99 (starts at $30 and goes to $10 at year end), that's 100M X 75% X 20% x $20 = $300M.

Give you I'm off 50% too optimistic, that's extra $150M in sales for LSI in '99 due to DVD alone.

Wow!

Margins should be fairly good too. Even the $10 price should be OK if they can make on 0.18um at Gresham vs others at 0.25um at TSMC and have to pay foundries first.

They had better get Gresham going fast and get that fab debugged.

patrick

PS if we close over $13 today while DJ and Naz are down big, I would say that the Sept orders are looking healthy and that news is already 'out'.

Oh well! Anybody dating Wilf's daughter?

Patrick:

As to the DPMI connection and the implication that Sept. for LSI is weak I did mention a further phrase to the sentence you quoted even though this is stretching the DPMI connection just a tad IMO (earlier posts). meaning that the correlation is not 1-1 since LSI could get stronger (fewer new designs possibly but stronger end demand for current ones) even with DPMI getting weaker.

Quoting parts of sentences - tsk tsk - a no no <g>

Also in reference to the other post, the $40 chip is for the DVD player not for the DVD ROM drives. Seems a tad high at $40 for the DVD ROM drives but I don't really know for sure. Nevertheless DVD will be big and about Sept. we will find out soon enough <g>
