I sold NT in fear of a purchase of BAY. Not that BAY wasn't a good company, but this sell off seemed like the logical conclusion. I also held BAY after I sold NT on the hopes that they would buy. In the end, I lucked out on both ends which has been one of the few good profits this summer.

Anyway, what I started to ask was with the high profile sales that were made to Brazil, how many people see this as a reason for the sell off, in addition to worries generated by Alcatel? Also, I believe NT had to install some manufacturing capabilities in Brazil to get these contracts. Is there possible trouble brewing there?

Also, their could be a rejection of SBC buying Ameritech coming from Congress? Seems like there were some high profile testimonies last week about blocking the consolidation of RBOC's into 2 main players. Has the good relation to SBC helped Nortel (recent 1.3 billion deal), and did it create an impression they would get more of the pie from Ameritech on and SBC merger?

Does any of the Ciena mess play into this? I believe NT has hopes of becoming a player in DWDM, but if Lucent is kicking butt on Ciena, how hard will it be for NT to get into the business?

Regards,

Mark
