Xylan Reports Continued Share Repurchase
Program

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1998--Xylan Corp.
(Nasdaq:XYLN - news), a leading provider of high-bandwidth switching systems, Tuesday reported that its board of
directors has authorized the repurchase of an additional 1 million shares of its Common Stock.

Under the original repurchase program announced in January 1998, the company had authorization to repurchase up to 2
million shares. On a year-to-date basis, Xylan has repurchased all 2 million shares. The company anticipates using the
repurchased shares for employee stock benefit plans.

Steve Kim, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Xylan, said the decision to extend the repurchase program
was made in view of the prices at which the company's stock has recently traded.
