Pat I am always rational. Of course there is a price at which the stock buy back will make sense. My favorite target for that is the when the stock trades at the ammount of cash it holds (or may be a bit above book value). The point I was making was that that price will quick change to just above the amount that will not make sense to buy back if the buy back is not executed right. You could make a case that the buy back made sense at twice the current price or at least at ~12. But to get the best results, it has to be executed right. The only thing worse than doing nothing under attack, is using your ammunition up and missing the target.

Let's keep our eye on the ball here people - Rampage.

It's unclear to me whether a buy back would help 3Dfx deliver Rampage on time or not, but delivering Rampage in a timely manner and with a killer feature set should be Priority One in my opinion. Anything that distracts from that is definitely A Bad Thing.

It's obvious that Banshee 2 is a necessary evil that will probably cause some distraction, but it appears that 3Dfx's R&D budget is sufficient to handle 2 development efforts for a couple of months. If a buy back threatens this capability, then it should not occur.

I get the sense from reading some of the recent messages that people are looking for anything that will give the stock a short term pop and allow them to get out. Anyone with that mindset should probably get out now. Only members of the "Iron Stomach" brigade need stick around at this point.
