-- OT -- Freeus, check out neural.com -- they have a Java applet called NetProphet that will display streaming quotes. They're delayed quotes, but it's free, and at 4:20 or so you'll know the closing prices and won't have to ask (unless your question was intended to get you the closing quote at 4:01, in which case I apologize, NetProphet won't help you -- but an account at Discover Brokerage (the broker I use) offers free, unlimited real-time quotes, so just open an account with the minimum balance, and the next day wire it all out except for a dollar -- assuming you want to stay with a broker who charges for real-time quotes). This is not to deter you from asking questions -- in fact, I love watching you learn, as I myself only learned recently, in the past three years or so (and there's still an immense amount that I don't know). There is so much information out there, and so many good people sharing it on these threads. SI is helping to liberate people. I get a really strong feeling of connectedness when sharing information here. It's really cool, computers are the path to Gaia: The first business I plan to start when we achieve nanotechnology is a human backup service. There will be a transmitter in your head, communicating with your house every sensory impression that you receive. So if you are in a catastrophic accident and your brain is scattered beyond repair, your house will just create another you, and you'll go on living, with every memory intact including the events leading up to the accident, so you can help to identify the cause. To prevent the remote possibility of my house and me being destroyed at the same time, I will have backup points stationed around the globe, throughout the asteroids, and even outside the solar system, as that won't last forever and there may be weapons (from our planet or another) big enough to wipe out a solar system. But the transmitter can do much more than just communicate with your house. We will communicate at light speed with each other, not bound by the current ~250 word per minute vocal apparatus we have, or the ~60 wpm fingers we have. And the communication will be encrypted, so only the desired party will receive it - you can whisper to someone from across a crowded room. Imagine that - the whole planet, connected by a network of radio waves, able to communicate across vast distances at the speed of thought! This will be the achievement of what the Gaia worshippers believe in - that we're all connected. To help us get there, I'm still offering the book Nano by Ed Regis to the first 100 people to email me (kenbeal@bigfoot.com) their snail addresses. I was using amazon.com , but the book is now on 3-5 week backorder and the discount no longer applies, so I'm using barnesandnoble.com , where it's still $15.91 total. So far I've ordered only three books, after having made my offer twice. I'm sure some people are concerned about their privacy -- giving your address to a complete stranger, especially when being on this thread means you may be wealthy, is perhaps a little crazy. And the reason the three who replied haven't received their books yet is I decided not to furnish a return address for the same reason. Amazon.com prints my return address on gifts, so I'm having them sent here and will then re-ship. I really want to share this with everyone, though. What's a better idea? Perhaps if I could get an Internet bookseller to sell me digital gift certificates, then I could email them out and people wouldn't risk their personal information with me. If you are one of those people, who would like this book but do not want to give out an address, please private message me and if there's sufficient interest I'll see if one of the booksellers is interested. But then again, if you fit that profile you can probably afford the $15.91 to order it yourself, so click on one of the above links and type "Nano: The Emerging Science of Nanotechnology" in the search box (ISBN: 0316738522). ;-) Cheers, KenB
