IBM supports Apache , AAPL supports Linux , MSFT meets DOJ 10/15/98

JAVA brews big with SUN , IBM , ORCL and AAPL .

Now INTC is supporting Linux ??? :

" There was no black-lined obituary in the San Jose Mercury News, but the Microsoft Corp. Windows and Intel Corp. computing alliance, better known as Wintel, died on or about July 14,1998.

We all knew it had been a somewhat rocky marriage, with stresses and strains along the way, like any other union. But no one could argue with the offspring -- the Windows personal computers populating every desktop from San Jose to Peshawar, Pakistan.

Yet, on July 14, Intel spokesman Sunil Saxena attended a panel discussion about the future of Linux. There, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in the heart of Silicon Valley, he declared that Intel wanted to support Linux. "

You really have to ask yourself : Is INTC serious , or are they helping Wintel partner MSFT get ready (posture) for its 10/15/98 DOJ date ?

Posturing !

SanFran is the largest Java system I have heard of and I am wondering about its relative performance, compared to C++. Does it depend on a resident interpreter at runtime, on both servers and client machines, or is it precompiled to native code?
