I believe ASND is up 6% today might be due to two short term factors. 1)ASND is appearing at Montgomery's conference tomorrow morning and might say something positive( ie will soon sell off non-telecom Stratus assets, or confirming the strong 10%+ sequential revenue growth for this quarter). 2) Lucent might have said something complimentary about ASND during their analyst meeting today which led someone to believe a takeover is coming.

I think many are afraid that Nortel's recent layoff, Alcatel earnings are preview of whats to come with ASND. I couldn't disagree more. ASND is in the center of what the telecom companies want for their next generation buildout networks. If Lucent doesn't want to go the way of NT ,ALA and compete effectively with CSCO, it needs ASND. ASND with its entrench position( hardware and more importantly software) among the U.S carriers, it is very hard for anyone to displace them from the core. I don't know if Lucent will acquire ASND or not, however I beleive that they can't afford not to.
