Here are some insights on possible PC developments from a friend on the Yahoo Finance DELL discussion board:

PC's or microcomputers were a revolution in data processing.

Larry Ellison thinks the microcomputer is going to get simpler and stupider(excuse the
english). That will make them less expensive and easier to use.

I think the microcomputer will become easier to use via the operating system, but more
robust under the surface. Most home computers are idle up to 85% of the time. With the
USB interface and say NT 5 as the O/S, that idle time can be spent, running certain
household functions like running the furnace, positioning solar panels, stuff like that.

To handle that, you need a server like box, and an OS much more stable than the current
NT releases. You'd never boot a machine like that(or certainly would not want to do so
as often as I have to boot my win98 box). Dell is in a good position to take advantage of
such trends.

What is going to happen? I don't know. Larry Ellison is running his company into the
ground. I have little respect for his opinion."
