I think currently many of the things being sold on ebay don't even cover the sales tax. Seller(Professional not people selling own stuff) probably thinks that if they can move enough of XYZ at only a 5% margin then they can still make good money.

"don't even cover sales tax" - Do you mean sales tax is not covered in the auction terms? Or that the seller is not receiving enough profit to cover sales tax? (which really shouldn't matter.. If the sale is shipped within a state sales tax must still be paid...)

There is to much labor involved to make a profit at 5% even if the item is drop shipped.. (for me anyway..)

In regards to selling "information"... "some" people will buy anything.. sure doesn't do much for me...
