Thanks for the Gilder link - very impressive stuff - makes good sense to me...

On the NationsBanc Montgomery thing, was it just me or was he covering his derriere quite a bit. Note the number of ifs he had! If you or I had that many ifs we could both say that there will be a rebound in 1999! (He says: (1 if) For a recovery to occur, the personal computer industry needs to continue to grow ... (2 smaller if)the communications industry must continue its roll-out of new telecommunications equipment, such as digital wireless handsets ... (3 if) and semiconductor-based networking system software... (4 big if) In addition, for a solid recovery to take place, the worldwide excess semiconductor manufacturing capacity must be absorbed, while (5 if) leading-edge manufacturers must continue with their announced plans to convert their production facilities to the next generation manufacturing standard of 0.18 micron.)

Likewise IF Clinton was a girl none of this stuff with Monica Lewinsky would have happened (we hope !!!) <g>

Did you see this from DPMI:

DuPont Photomasks this morning corrected its warning to investors, saying the semiconductor slowdown probably will cut revenue by 10 percent to 16 percent from the $68.8 million reported in year-ago period.

Yesterday, the company erroneously reported revenue would fall 6 percent to 10 percent.

(that explains that funky 6 - all things considered I thought it finished quite all right - chip companies expect revenues down 5 to 10%, semi-equips who knows but likely at least 20-30% less I would guess and so these guys fit nicely in between )

In the eerie category I noticed that when I boot my computer on I get the words LSI Logic Corporation - I swear!* I AM BEING BRAINWASHED <g>

My mother said she heard something about LSI Logic on TV today - something about the stock behaving well or business being good - of course she did not hear it clearly enough to confirm which way - that's my mother!!! <g>

Maybe LSI did the NationsBanc thing today and said things are back to good again??? That would be a reasonable explanation IMO.
