I believe that the excess capacity has lowered selling price regardless of where the chip is produced. Theoretically, the Fabless guy may have less Depreciation but may have larger Contractual commitment to foundries regardless of demand for chips.

I suspect that it depends upon the niche: If company is making DRAM, it's in trouble. If it's making high speed DSPs for a specialized niche, it may not be suffering quite as much as the rest of the industry.
