Lucent <LU.N> wins $30 mln Brunei contract

MURRAY HILL, N.J., Sept 17 (Reuters) - Lucent Technologies Inc. said on Thursday it received a US$30 million contract to build Jabatan Telekom Brunei's (JTB) telecommunications network infrastructure.

The contract includes the design, supply and support of an optical transport and access network infrastructure using optical fiber technology, Lucent said.

The infrastructure project will provide JTB with a high capacity optical network, which will allow JTB to offer customers more bandwidth and very high communication speeds for multimedia and data applications, Lucent said.

Lucent said it expects to complete the project in 11 months.

The network will also meet the large bandwidth requirements for upcoming international events to be hosted in Brunei Darussalam, such as the SEA Games 1999 and the Asia Pacific Economic Conference's (APEC) Summit 2000, the company said.

Jabatan Telekom Brunei (JTB) is one of six departments under the Ministry of Communications.

DOWN DOWN IT GOES NO BODY KNOWS HOW LOW... buy buy buy, the company see nothing but blues skys above, but the market isn't listening, WHY? Investor sillyness...

*OT* This guy is a pretty respected analyst... (J. Noel not djane <gg>)
Hey, Jay, I'm hurt. How did you know that I'm just a schmuck sitting in his living room watching CNBC like everyone else instead of an influential mutual fund manager as so many SIers pretend to be? :-))))))))

enables hq to keep manufacturing deals..

Anyone care to speculate how much the inevitable ASND buyout will hurt LU's share price? I'm guessing 10%, based on the relative market caps, but am not sure how much of this is already factored in. Any other guesses?
