You asked for parallels. I pointed one out. As to Presidential disqualifiers and parallels between Clinton and Nixon, I would say that Obstruction of Justice, Abuse of Office and Witness Tampering are parallels which disqualify each from office. JLA

I wouldn't consider Bush's No New Taxes statement a lie. It was a broken campaign promise. A lie is one in which you misrepresent the facts. In order to classify Bush's statement as a lie, you would have to know that he intended to raise taxes from back in 1988.

He was dealing with a Democrat Congress that wanted to raise taxes to 'narrow' the deficit, to 'save' Social Security, and to 'save' Medicare and Medicaid. Of course, none of those were accomplished since the Democrats continued spending and they increased the size of those two entitlement programs by expanding the Social Security Supplemental Income program and then backed off on raising the premiums on the elderly for the Medicare. The chief culprits for the ballooning deficits were the economy and the indexation of government taxes and spending programs to the CPI.
