Tell me how that's not comparing apples to apples. In fact, Crane's conduct was far more egregious because the underlying conduct--sex--was illegal in that instance, whereas Clinton's underlyiing conduct was perfectly legal. An additional note; this was no small congressional matter. Califano spent 1.5 million (1983) dollars to investigate Crane.

As for Crane, he lost. But in no small part thanks to the towering reputation of Hyde (who following his speech sat down next to Crane to listen to the rest of the debate) Crane's job was saved. Studds, on the other hand, continued to win, term after term, much to Newt Gingrich's chagrin.
