Well, I thought rrman meant individual stocks. Sure, that happens all the time. I could tell you stories about small international oil companies. Not that I was there in the office, but what's done is manipulation.

But not the market averages. I guess someone could throw in a billion or two and either jack up or depress the average a few points for a short time. just as one could mortgage one's house and put all the proceeds on red on a roulette game and double your money.
