- - - Sort of OFF TOPIC - - - I just had another thought and I might be wrong; however, many times there is confusion as to what is meant by the word "Revenue". To some people, this word means "that money which is left after all expenses have been paid" (such as: "revenue to the company"). This interpretation would be similar to "Retained Earnings" or - the very bottom line on an Income Statement. Correct me if the majority disagree with me, but the quick classical definition of "Revenue" is "money received from the sale of a product or the offering of a service". (Granted, it would be expanded to include the sale of bartered good, redemption of securities or other liquid assets, etc, etc.) Using the above definition, if FNTN took in even one dollar ($1.00) it would have generated revenue. However, I do not think anyone is trying to be that liberal in the use of the word. Therefore, it might be helpful if, when referring to "revenues", we elaborate - just a little - so every reader knows what the poster is thinking and really wants to communicate. If I may, I remember when I started teaching, one of the best lessons I ever learned was the following: It is my responsibility, as a speaker, to make sure the image I have in my minds is communicated - in a clear and concise way - to the recipient. If I have not conveyed the same image, that is in my mind, to the mind of the person listing - I HAVE NOT DONE MY JOB! To continue, it is never the sole responsibility of the listener to correctly interpret the words the speaker is using, or the concept (s)he is doing their best to convey. The delivery is always the speakers responsibility. Therefore, in conclusion, when speaking - if it is made known to me or I have reason to believe - I have not been clear, it is my responsibility to restate the concept (perhaps in a different way, perhaps several additional times) until I'm confident it was been communicated in a clear and concise way. Only then, even if it is still not understood, have I done my job. (However, from the view point of one who cares, at that point my job is really only half done. Nevertheless, looking at the current problems within the various public school systems, that seems to be a matter of personal opinion.) Anyway, it's late at night and thank you for allowing me to take up space and simply ramble on. Good night to all and may tomorrow be a better day for everyone. .....-jp
