xcr600--I tend to agree with you about Yahoo.
I don't check much there but certain stocks it can be a good idea. A stock that is priced different than logic indicates it should be like HEPH is a good one. They get away with stuff there that would have them laughed off of SI after their nomination to Thread Morons.
Stuff like: SEC filings are boiler plate, this company should be valued at 3 billion dollars, it is a bullish sign that insiders are selling (and they aren't really selling they are just original investors selling, not insiders).

Yahoo threads are generally worthless, except for the purpose you mentioned, to check on the hype or general sentimant. But even that can be misleading, becasue of the numerous aliases posters can use, you never know who is saying what.
