Yes Sheila, thannks. I did knnnow that. There is speculation that once LU clears the 1 year threshold, they are free to make acquisitions, and will begin doing so. Speculation is ASND, but I think that was dashed today with ASND and ALA getting cozier...

They need something in the networking space to take on CSCO. Note that CS (Cabletron Systems) has been moving up.. Hmmmmmm.

I'm actually underweight US gold stocks. I prefer the South Africans because of their lower valuations and higher dividends

ASA and AU are my favorites.

When LU was split off of AT&T, part of the deal was that LU would NOT not acquire other related businesses for a particular time period. I think the period ends in October or November.

Shelia, Lucent's (two-year?) limitation on using the "pooling of interest" accounting method for acquisitions is about to expire. When this happens LU will be able to swallow much bigger fish because it can use its stock to buy other companies, instead of cash.

Just got my first demo of a cable modem today. Knew all along it would be awesome, but hadn't realized it will be available here November 1st. Local cable company laying new undersea fiber line south to Seattle, and fiber has been installed along the Alaska RR to Fairbanks. This type of expansion here and in the rest of the country should drive demand for a lot of internet backbone gear.
