DaveMG, MOT & CDMA; Motorola CIG Invites PCS '98 Attendees to View Its Full Line of State-Of-The-Art Cellular Network Solutions BUSINESS WIRE ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1998--[ Motorola, Inc. ] 's Cellular Infrastructure Group (CIG) announced today that it plans to introduce two new wireless products, as well as exhibit a full portfolio of products and services, during the Personal Communications Industry Association's annual PCS '98 Personal Communications Showcase. PCS '98 will be held September 22 - 25 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Motorola CIG invites attendees to stop by Booth 2829 to view the following cellular network solutions: Migration Path Toward Third Generation Systems Motorola CIG will be announcing plans to offer Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) operators a first step solution to high-speed data. By utilizing the IS-95B specification for CDMA networks, Motorola CIG will offer operators wireless data at 64 kilobits per second (Kbps). This interim step, classified as "2-1/2 G" within the telecommunications industry, would provide operators with a gradual, cost-effective migration toward 3G capabilities. CDMA Plain Paper Fax Solution Motorola CIG is introducing its new end-to-end plain paper fax solution for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) fixed wireless digital cellular networks. With this wireless local loop fax capability, subscribers of Motorola CIG's CDMA WiLL(R) system can simply connect an off-the-shelf, standard Group 3 fax machine to an enhanced Motorola CIG WiLL(R) 800SC or 1900SC fixed wireless terminal to send faxes wirelessly. Pilot Beacon Motorola CIG will unveil its stand-alone pilot beacon for use on CDMA cellular networks. The product, which enables seamless "hard handoffs" while it transitions calls between two different systems, provides operators with a cost-effective spot coverage solution. Third Generation (3G) Products Attendees can get a glimpse into the future of high-speed data applications by visiting Motorola CIG's futuristic demonstration at the PCS '98 3G Pavilion. The company will demonstrate a developing technology that enables wireless video communications. Circuit-Switched Packet Data and Fax Services Motorola CIG encourages PCS '98 attendees to view its circuit-switched fax and data services demonstration. This service provides subscribers with the ability to connect a CDMA digital phone to a computer to send and receive faxes, as well as connect to the Internet, at speeds of up to 14.4 Kbps -- without the use of specialized modems. Motorola CIG will also exhibit CDMA base stations, a network management tool, 8 kilobits per second Enhanced Variable Rate Coder, an intelligent network service and operation and maintenance solutions.
