If the clone do iMac one better, Apple has to do two better to stay ahead.

Once they have the user base solidly re-established then I think they can offer cloners the ability to make iMac-like products.

They can make the 400 MHz iMac clones for $600. Apple should not get into that kind of a price war. Remember Performa!!
