Fred - Re: " I'm sure Paul meant Q198 not Q298. Intel beat consensus estimates by 11% in Q1. Kurlack's (c intentional) estimate was 20+% low."

Thanks for the correction.

I think GVTucker has finally figured out that Kurlak is just another yokel - WHO DOESN'T RETURN PHONE CALLS - on Wall Street who is way over his head.

Paul

Fred, RE:<<At any rate, Paul's assertion "Intel surprised on the upside TWICE in the past 9 months" is correct and after Q3 it will be 3 of the last 4 quarters. Not bad for a period during which most semi's were/are losing big bucks and missing estimates badly.>>

I do not call it an upside surprise when Intel reports a number that is below where the estimates were at the beginning of the quarter. The only reason, outside of the most recent quarter, that they reported "upside" surprises is that they guided down estimates throughout the quarter. The fact remains that at this time last year, the average estimate for FY98 was about $5.00. The actual number will be $3 and change. You don't see a decline like that when you have upside surprises.
