<<But the precedents that are established along the way will haunt people for years to come.>>

I agree. I wrote an email to my Congressman last night asking him to try to slow down this runaway train, and make sure that whatever decisions are made are done for the good of the country (long-term), not the good of the party. I also asked him to speak with the Judiciary Committee members and ask them not to rush the evidence out to the public, but to think very carefully about the precedents it would set.

For the record, I am very much anti-Clinton, but I'm not yet convinced he should either resign or be impeached. As much as I don't want a long, drawn out hearing, I also don't want a blind rush over the edge of the abyss. The evidence can always be released later, but once it's out, there's no way to put the genie back in the bottle. We elected the Congresspeople to do our work - I would rather they ignored the opinion polls and did their jobs, however it turns out. Afterward, they can try to convince us they did the right thing. If we don't agree, we can vote them out. That's how the system is supposed to work. If we want a say on every issue, let's change our form of government to a true democracy instead of a republic. Otherwise, let the Congress do its job.
