I read the transcript of that broadcast. Gates is a great businessman and was also very lucky to be in the right spot at the right time. Buffett's strategy was the same as Peter Lynch's for the most part. Both did very, very well.

I don't know the answer to the question. But I think the environment for investing is different today. A balanced approach of investment in excellent companies and shorting of poor ones is wise in my opinion.

Marty,

Sort of makes one wonder what Warren could have been if he had been a well rounded investor, and had been open to shorting as well as only going long.
