Guess what, Paul. The Sharptooth will have a smaller die size than that currently reported on the AMD web site roadmap.

So what is Sharptooth's die size really going to be? From what I see on AMD's web site, the K6-2 is currently 81 mm2, and Sharptooth is projected to be 135 mm2. But then again, AMD's own roadmap says Sharptooth is coming out in 2H'98, so I guess that roadmap is a pretty old one.

What is the die size of your much hyped Dixon?

A better question will be, "How much power does Dixon consume?" If I'm a notebook vendor, I don't care if the whole chip is larger than even half a business card, as long as the total power consumption stays the same compared to the 300 MHz mobile Deschutes with off-chip L2 cache. Because performance laptops are high in cost anyway, people wouldn't mind paying several hundred dollars more to get the Dixon on their laptops. However, they won't even spend an extra dime on that same chip if it drains their batteries more quickly.

I used 81 sq. mm and 117 sq. mm. for the K6-2 and Sharptooth.

What are the REAL NUMBERS FROM THE PWIVATE THWEAD?
