re: "here is never 0 risk"

Some risks are small enough to be effectively zero, and safely ignored. If AMAT reaches 13, I will feel very safe having 100% of my portfolio in semi-equips. In February 1997, I had for a brief time, a one-stock portfolio (AMAT) and I did OK.

re: "amat should do well but i think it will be awhile" When that is the consensus opinion (and it is, now), that is exactly the time to buy. It seems so obvious to me. Everyone (and their hairdresser and plumber) is anxiously watching the industry, cash in hand, waiting for signs of an upturn, ready to pile in, but not yet, because "it will be a while". If you want to buy the stock cheap, you have to buy before those signs are obvious.
