regarding Japan's banks, from this AM WSJ: "U.S. Wary of a Tough Japan Bank Plan"

an excerpt:

"One Bright Spot

Outside Japan, the worry is that bowing to the opposition demand to cut off a government credit line to the banking system could make the banking crisis worse. The government's success earlier this year in creating this credit line, despite resistance, was held up as the one bright spot on Japan's gloomy financial landscape, which is darkened by a $600 billion bad-loan problem."

Doesn't sound like we're out of the woods yet IMO.

Tom
