Bob,

I do not think that FSTW is liquid enough to make it worthwhile to trade. Even if it were, in order to make the strategy you outlined work, one would need to be fairly certain that FSTW is dead money for the following 30 days. Even a recovery of $1 (half the ground lost -- not unlikely) would render it unprofitable.

When I have large realized gains to offset (not a concern for me, this year,) I like to wait until late November. This way, I develop as clear a picture of year-end prices as possible, while still retaining the ability to buy back in late December, should tax-loss selling on the part of others depress the stocks I sold, even more. And I probably would rule out FSTW as a candidate alltogether, as it is just too easy to move the market in this stock, thereby defeating the purpose.

Regards,
RB

My feeling about your tax-loss selling theory is that it would be a bit self-defeating. As we have seen, it doesn't take much to move this stock a long way. It's very illiquid.

And unfortunately it's hard to predict any big moves up without real earnings.

Everyone refers to FSTW as a long term hold. I'm beginning to think that long-term-hold is a substitute for d-o-g. The fact is that over the last several years this stock has been an extremely poor long term hold. I'm long this one and it has been a gamble that I was hoping would pay off since my worse case scenario was that they would get bought out. This company needed to get a new product out on a timely basis to compete in a very fast moving marketplace if they had any chance of accelerating revenues. They have really failed to execute on that score and I regret my investment.

If anyone at FSTW is listening it is time to sell the company.
