I have noticed in your posts several references to the "specialist" and from what I can determine I think your term "specialist" has the same meaning as "market maker". In any event, would you be kind enough to post a short explanation (actually the more detailed the better) of what this "specialist" does in terms of affecting availability and price of the stock. A short lesson on the role, function and the day in the life of a "specialist" would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you have two forces in operation today. The Holiday on Monday will have traders taking an early exit to a long weekend, and Options Expiration today.

SEG will hang around the options round number of 22 1/2. Traders are going home, and activity is slowing.
