Earnings Plays NEWSLETTER for week of October 1-October 8 will be ready in all probability by Sunday. The earnings plays were particularly successful this time with a good deal of them giving 10% after the report and another 5-10% on anticipation before the report. Some even trended up during the downswing yesterday (INTV).

Next week we will have two lists: The low-priced stocks (like HDCO,CKSG,REXI,UBB,CS) that have been beaten down and the new list of potential earnings plays, the one for end of September and also the one for first week of October. That way we know at a glance which companies have the 'highest' probablility of an earnings surprise. As usual I look for the top 5% earners from the entire 9,000 database.

I will also include the stocks with the 'lowest' earnings as I did this week. That gave us the opportunity to pick CS, NKE and some others that were in the newsletter to see if perhaps they might offer either a short of a long play. When I include a stock like CS in both the daily watchlist and the newsletter it usually means the stock is technically poised for advance as CS was yesterday.

The greatest majority of stocks will be reporting from 11th until 28 of October. I will have each week prepared beforehand. Due to the enormous amount of stocks reporting, I will include about 7-8 stocks on each day. At that time the watch lists will be shortened to just about 1/2 dozen to enable you to concentrate on the earnings plays.

November is one of the best months like September. There are less companies reporting so we can easily choose the best ones by giving each of them more attention.

As usual, I don't recommend buying any of the stocks and holding through earnings. There will be a fair amount that you might be comfortable holding, but chances are stocks like COMS, or JBL might offer a better 1-2 day swing trade before earnings.

If you are new to this thread or Market Gems Website, check out the newsletter archives to previous editions of the newsletter: marketgems.com and also marketgems.com for some strategies and a better understanding of these plays.
