WHITE HOUSE LEAKS THAT SENATOR STROM THURMOND HAD EXTRA-MARITAL AFFAIR IN 1879 A high level White House source contacted a number of Washington reporters to reveal that South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond had a wild fling with a naughty Victorian mistress that began in 1879 and lasted for several years before Thurmond's wife terminated the relationship. Thurmond, who is 148, quickly admitted to the affair and attributed it to a "turn of the century indiscretion." Republicans on Capitol Hill were furious with the latest smear attempt by operatives working for the president. "What Strom did 119 years ago bears absolutely no relevance to his ability to make a judgement on President Clinton's fitness to remain in office," said House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The mistress, who went by the name Delilah the Dominatrix, was unavailable for comment because she passed away in 1962. According to ABC's Sam Donaldson, one of the reporters to whom the story was leaked, the White House aide described in detail sexual liaisons in which Thurmond dressed liked a naughty school boy and was disciplined with harsh spankings from the mistress who wore the habit of a nun. "Frankly my toupee fell off when I heard this story," Donaldson said.
