Dell's danger

In his report, Young noted that Dell's stock "represents an unusually high level of risk" because of the commodity nature of its business. Moreover, Dell's multiple of 56 times earnings per share is at the high end of the range for the industry. But improved manufacturing efficiencies should maintain the valuation, according to Young.

"Dell's management may even argue for a better valuation," the analyst wrote, "since Dell maintains a return on invested capital superior to that of its peers with similar growth rate but has a lower P/E."
