pardon me for butting in with my 2cents worth, but Kennedy showed his true spineless colors at that hearing. here are 2 public servants testifying before a congressional committee and they "laugh off" a question from one of the congressmen. any congressman worth his salt would have put them in their place; reminded them that they (greenspan and rubin) were testifying under penalty of perjury (I believe), and demanded that they fully respond to the question. kennedy showed just how big of a wimp he is. I was completely surprised by the absolute lack of questions on japan and the administration's apparently unsuccessful attempts to urge it to move on its problems. the congressional panel IMO did not appear to be in touch with the evolving situation. what the committee needs are some trained economists from the University of Chicago to brief them on what questions should be asked.

Henry, I agree that the IMF is half the problem. They can't keep expecting the U.S. taxpayers to bail out the lenders mistakes. Besides, their policies have had disastrous results. (The original "Scorched Earth" policy?)

How long do you think it will be before the mainstream catches on that Greenspan's deflationary policies have also had a major role in the devastation that started in Asia and has spread like wildfire?
