The only problem with allowing Congress "only" to view the President's testimony is that there is absolutely no way to prevent one or many individual members from disseminating "select" portions of the record.

Why do you feel that the American people do not have the right and responsibility to view all the evidence and come to their own conclusions? President Clinton spoke publicly and characterized his GJ testimony. Do we not have the right to see and hear that testimony and judge whether he was being truthful to us? I understand the reasoning for editing out any non-relevant testimony by the President or protecting the names of individuals that may come up whose involvement is tertiary and would be willing to defer to the congressional judgement on that. bp

Well j_b, once again I admire your non-partisanship as far as your stance on the video....no, I've not given my congressperson my opinion because I want to see it with my own eyes. My intuition tells me the President will probably just come off as careful(afterall he was surrounded by his relentless pursuers) and annoyed by certain questions. I could easily be wrong, but I'll be surprised if the public does not have the reaction "if that was me, I'd have reacted the same way" OR "so what...is that all there is?"...His poll percentages could even get higher.

I understand that Henry Hyde is only 1 vote. I may have mentioned before that even though I strongly disagree with him on the abortion question, I always admired & respected him. If I'd known he was capable of keeping a young mothers from 3 small children behind his wife's back and then drop her abruptly once found out, I'd never have held him in such high esteem. That's why I want to know about the entire committee.....the entire congress for that matter. They want all the privileges & perks of being our representative; therefore, they should be willing and able to endure thorough inspection of their personal lives. If they've something to hide, hopefully in the future they will not run for those positions. That way we'll get the cream of the crop........or the dullest people on earth:o)
